Dhiraj Rabha

Dhiraj Rabha (b. 1995, Borali Gaon, Assam, India) is an interdisciplinary artist whose research-driven practice engages with collective memory, landscape, and the politics of representation. Working across drawing, installation, moving image, sound, photography, and spatial intervention, he explores how structures of power shape histories, belief systems, and ecological relationships, and how forms of knowledge and lived experience become marginalised or erased.

Growing up in a family affected by armed insurgency in Assam, Rabha’s early practice examined memory, testimony, displacement, and the afterlives of conflict. His practice has since expanded toward ecological and cultural transformations across Northeast India, engaging with extractive development, indigenous cosmologies, folk beliefs, and oral traditions.

He develops long-term projects through sustained engagement with communities, sites, and environments, often creating living archives outside conventional institutional frameworks. He holds a BFA and MFA in Painting from Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati University, and a BA in Political Science from Dudhnoi College. He is a recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant (2025), Umrao Singh Sher-Gil Grant for Photography (2025), Prince Claus Seed Award (2024), and grants from Experimenter and the India Foundation for the Arts. His work has been presented at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, Whitechapel Gallery, Angkor Photo Festival, Anant Art Gallery, Vadhera Art Gallery, Bengal Biennale, and Serendipity Arts Festival, among others.
